How to Make Custom-Fit Bras & Lingerie
by Don McCunn

Testing the Bust Sling
"X" Back Support

The Bust Sling Bra with an "X" Back design has been developed in large part to provide a degree of comfort and support for women with large busts that is not possible with a conventional bra.

Before venturing into a new type of bra, it is important for women to be comfortable with what this type of bra will feel like. This can be accomplished quickly and easily by creating an "apron" to replicate an "X" Back Bust Sling Bra. This "apron" can be made from scrap fabric. The "apron" below is made from medium weight muslin. The dimensions of this apron body are 12" (30 cm) by 36" (90 cm). The two straps are 3" (7.5 cm) by 60" (150 cm). The bottom of the apron body is folded back to create a 11" (28 cm) pocket.

Apron to replicate

The weight that must be supported will vary based on the bra size that a woman wears. The weight of the breast tissue can vary widely based on the specific composition of the breast tissue. But the chart at the bottom of this page lists an approximation of the weight of both breasts for different cup sizes. The video shows how this weight can be duplicated by putting water in a jar to achieve an equivalent weight.
